How I took a WooCommerce store from 9s to 1.8s, without a redesign

WooCommerceSep 29, 20266 min read

A client came to me with a WooCommerce store loading in 9 seconds. Cart abandonment was brutal and sales were flat.

What we did

  • Replaced four heavy plugins with two lightweight ones
  • Converted every image to WebP with lazy loading
  • Cleaned 14,000 junk rows from the database
  • Set up proper object caching

The result after two weeks

  • Load time: 9s → 1.8s
  • Bounce rate down 34%
  • Conversions noticeably up within the first month

Total time invested: under six hours. Most stores don’t need a rebuild, they need someone who knows where to look.
